Friday, May 17th Week #14

Dear parents, What did we do this week? Phonics - In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about the syllable: /le . We learned different words like handle, wiggle, waffle, jingle, and many more. The students practiced by saying the words over and over again. We had more practice and wrote pages 157-162 in the Phonics Practice book.    Grammar - (red group) This week we learned about modal verbs: can. “Can” says that you’re able to do something. “Can’t (cannot)” says that you’re not able to do something. This lesson was quite easy for some of the students. We practiced more conversation and went around telling our friends what we can and can’t do. They enjoyed sharing and listening to what everyone had to say.  We completed pages 82-84 in the Grammar in Mind Book. Dear parents, ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—This week was our review & test week. The students worked really hard! I am very proud of them for being proactive and putting first things first. I will send home the test papers on Monday.  What did we do this week? Phonics - We have reviewed the following: R-controlled vowels: /ar (f ar , ar m) R-controlled vowels: /er, /ir. /ur (h er , g ir l, c ur l) Vowel Diphthong: /oo (b oo k, f oo t) Vowel Diphthong: /ew (ch ew , gr ew ) Vowel Diphthong: /ow, /ou ( cow , cl ou d) Long Vowel: /ie, /igh, /y (p ie , r igh t, sk y )              Grammar  - We have reviewed the following: Green group - Lesson 21-25  Red group – Lesson 13-17 Spelling - We reviewed all the spelling words from weeks 7-12.  We practiced and wrote some of the spelling words in our writing book. They all did well on it.  A/V (Audio Visual)  – Both groups went to A/V class this week. Math - We reviewed Chapters 15, 17, and 18 and wrote some review worksheets in class

Friday, May 3rd Week #12

  Dear parents,  ๐Ÿ’ŸNext Wednesday and Thursday will be our midterm exams. Please start reviewing with your child over the weekend.  Phonics - In this week’s phonics lesson, we learned about long vowels: /ie, /igh, /y. We learned different words like  tie, pie, try, sky, light, fright, high,  and much more. The students practiced by saying the words over and over again. They all did really a good job of understanding the long vowel sound. We had more practice and wrote pages 1151-156 in the Phonics Practice book. Grammar -   (red group)  We learned about “Question words: What” this week . What asks about things and information. Do or Does come after what: What do/ does + subject + Base verb ~?  Example: What  does  she want? She  wants  to sleep. We had more practice and completed pages 78-80 in the grammar textbook. Grammar -   (green group)   This week we started reviewing for our upcoming midterm. Everyone is working hard and staying focused to do their best on the exam. Reading -  T

Friday, April 28th Week #11

Dear parents, What did we do this week? Phonics  - In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about vowel diphthong: ow & ou. We learned words like how, town, house, sour, and more. The students practiced by saying the words over and over again. They all did really a great job of identifying the vowel diphthong: ow & ou. We had more practice and wrote pages 145-150 in the Phonics Practice book. Grammar- This week we reviewed lessons 13-16 (red group) and lessons 17-20 (green group) . We wrote pages 76-77 (red group) and pages 94-95 (green group) . Everyone is doing great in Grammar class! Reading  - We reviewed all the old stories this week. Please remember to ask your child to read it to you at home. They have to keep it in their English bag so that they can read it at school and home.  Journeys   (green group) –  We read “The Dot” this week. They really enjoyed reading this story. Dear parents, What did we do this week? Phonics-  In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about vowel diphthong: /ew. We learned words like chew, grew, dew, and much more. The students practiced by saying the words over and over again. They all did a great job identifying the diphthong: /ew. We had more practice and wrote pages 145-150 in the Phonics Practice book. Grammar  -   (red group)  This week we learned about “The Simple Present: Yes/ No Questions”. Yes/No Questions in the simple present begin with Do/Does. Example:  Do  you like this book? Yes, I  do .  Does  she have a new book? No, she  doesn’t . We completed pg 72-75 in the Grammar in Mind Book. Grammar  -   (green group)  This week we learned about “Imperatives”. Imperatives tell people to do or not to do something. Imperatives start with verbs with capital letters. For example: Sing. Don’t Sing. We completed pg 90-93 in the Grammar in Mind Book. Reading  -  This week’s readers are –  Bow-Wow Dog   (red group)  &  Bun
