Friday, December 29h (Week#19)

Dear parents, **Next week will be our test week. I’ve sent home all the books. Please use them to review and don’t write any of the new pages. Please remember to bring it back to school by next Friday, January 5 th .** What did we do this week? Phonics-  In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about the R-controlled vowel: /or ( for, fort, corn) . We practiced this sound by saying the sound and then the words repeatedly. We had more practice and completed pages 85-90 in the Phonics Practice Book. Grammar  –   Both  red  and  green  groups had review lessons this week for the upcoming tests.  The  red group   reviewed “The Verb Be: Yes/No Questions.  The  green group  reviewed “Possessive Adjectives & Question Words: What”.  Please study the pages on the test scope and the Language Handbook's 72-77 (green group) 73-74 (red group). Friday, December 22nd (Week #17)

Dear parents, ๐ŸŽ„Merry Christmas!๐ŸŽ„ Everyone enjoyed the special Christmas luncheon today! Thank you for all the love and support!  What did we do this week? Phonics-  In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about the long vowel /i/ i_e/ (time, spice,  rice). We learned different long  i  silent e words. We practiced this sound by saying the sound and then the words over and over again. We had more practice and completed pages 79-84 in the Phonics Practice Book. Grammar (green group ) – This week we learned about making what questions. This was a  follow-on from learning this/that/these and those. They did a super job working on their own! I am very proud of them! We completed pages 54-56 in the Grammar book. Grammar (red group) – We are still learning about making and answering yes/no questions. Dear Parents,                                      The English test will be on  Thursday, January 4th   and the Science and Math test will be on  Friday, January 5th.   SPELLING  WORDS Review the spelling words from lesson 11-15 (week #14-#18).  We  will test some of these words. PHONICS Review pages 61, 63, 69, 70, 73, 76, 79, 82, 85 GRAMMAR Review textbook  Lesson 6 – The Verb Be: Negative & Contractions, pages 29-30 Lesson 7 – The Verb Be: Yes/No Questions, pages 33-34  Lesson 8 – Question Words: Who, pages 37-38 *They will also get a few sentences that they have to write correctly. ~capital letter, period (.) and question mark (?)~* SCIENCE  Unit 4-5 Please study Science Activity book pages 26, 27, 28, 31, 33, 34, 35, 36, and 37. They need to know the difference between living and non-living things. Friday, December 15th (Week#16)

Dear parents, What did we do this week? Phonics -  In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about the long vowel /a/ a_e/ (face, race, late). We learned different long a silent e words. We practiced this sound by saying the sound and then the words over and over again. We had more practice and completed pages 73-78 in the Phonics Practice Book. Grammar   (green group)  – This week we learned about “Possessive Adjectives”. Possessive adjectives show possession. Possessive adjectives say that something belongs to someone or something. They come before nouns. For example:  I  am Tom. This is  my  book. We had more practice and wrote pages 50-52 in the Grammar book. Grammar   (red group)   - This week we learned about “The Verb Be: Yes/No Questions”. We make  yes/no questions  with the  verb be . The  verb be (am, are, is)  comes at the beginning of the sentences: The  verb be (Am, Are, Is)  + subject + ~ ? For example: Are you a student? Yes, I am. We completed pages 32-33 in the

Dear parents, What did we do this week?   Phonics-  In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about digraph /sh /wh /ph ( sh arp. wh ip, gra ph ) . We learned different words. We practiced this sound by saying the sound and then the words over and over again. We had more practice and completed pages 61-66 in the Phonics Practice Book.   Grammar   (green group) – This week we learned about “Adjectives (size, color, shape)”.  Adjectives  are words that describe nouns. They   describe things like the size, color, or shape of nouns.   Adjectives come before a noun or after the verb be. We completed pages 46-48 in the grammar textbook.   Grammar   (red group) – This week we continue learning about “The Verb  Be : Negative & Contractions”. Dear parents,   Yay! We are all done with the English and Chinese tests! They all did great on their first tests! Both classes reached the class average goal! I am very proud of them!  What did we do this week?   Phonics -  In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about /ch and /tch (chin, catch). We learned different /ch & /tch words. They synergized and came up with many words. We had more practice and completed pg 61-66 in the Phonics Practice Book.   Grammar   (green group)  –This week we learned about “Demonstrative Adjectives: This, That, These, Those”.  This  and  these  are for things that are  near .  That  and  those  are for things that are  far . This and  that  are for  singular , and these and those are for  plurals .
