Friday, March 29th Week #7

Dear parents, What did we do this week?   Phonics  -  In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about the r-controlled vowel: /ar. We learned different words like  far, farm, art, part, card,  etc. The students practiced by saying the words over and over again. They all did really a great job of identifying the “ar” sound. We had more practice and wrote pages 121-126 in the Phonics Practice book.   Grammar-   (green group)  This week we learned about “Question words: What”. What asks about things and information. Do or Does come after what: What do/ does + subject + Base verb ~?  Example: What  does  she want? She  wants  to sleep. We had more practice and completed pages 78-80 in the grammar textbook.   Grammar  -   (red group)  This week we learned about prepositions of places. We learned words like “on, in, under, next to, behind, in front of”. We understand those words will help us to know where people or things are. We completed pages 60-62 in the grammar textbook.   Readin

Friday, March 22nd Week #6

Dear Parents, πŸ’œThis week was our test week. I am so proud of everyone! They all did a great job on all the tests. All three test papers are going home today. Please ensure that your child makes any necessary corrections with a colored pencil and signs all three test papers. The test papers need to be returned to school on Monday. Thank you! Friday, March 15th Week #5

Dear parents, πŸ’œ This week was our review week. I am  so proud  of everyone! They all worked very hard this week.   What did we do this week?   Phonics -  We have reviewed the following:  Long vowels: /o-e, Long vowels: /ea, /ee, Long vowels: /ai, /ay, Long vowels: /ow, /oa, and Compound words.                     Grammar-  We have reviewed the following: Green group - Prepositions, Simple present of the verb like/have, and the simple present: yes/no questions.  Red group  – Demonstrative Adjectives (This, That, These, Those), Adjectives, Possessive Adjectives, and Question Words: What. Science  - We reviewed parts of a plant/flower, counting shapes, and different types of materials (rubber, glass, cloth, plastic, wood, and paper) Math  -  We reviewed comparing numbers, graphs, and numbers to 40. Have a good weekend and study hard! The English test is next Tuesday and Science & Math next Wednesday. Love, Ms. Kelly

Friday, March 8th Week #4

Dear parents, Happy Friday! πŸ’– Thank you all for coming to see us yesterday.  Next week will be our review week. The English test will be on Tuesday, 03/19 and the Math & Science test on Wednesday, 03/20. I’ve sent home all the books. Please make sure they bring them back to school on Wednesday, 03/20. **We are finished with Science Activity Book 1A. They don’t need to bring that book back.** What did we do this week?  Phonics - In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about compound words. A compound word merges two or more root words into a new and different word. We came up with many different compound words. The students practiced by saying the words over and over again. They all did a great job on compound words. We had more practice and wrote pages 115-120 in the Phonics Practice book. Grammar - This week we reviewed lessons 9-12  (red group)  and lessons 13-16  (green group) . We wrote pages 58-59  (red group)  and pages 76-77   (green group) . We will continue and

Friday, March 1st Week #3

Dear parents,   Happy Friday! The students are all working very hard and everyone has improved in writing, speaking, and listening. I am very proud of everyone and I hope everyone will keep up the good work!  What did we do this week?   Phonics -  In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about the long vowel ”ow and oa”. We learned words like boat, coat, low, grow, and more. The students practiced by saying the words over and over again. They all did really a great job of identifying the long o sound. We had more practice and wrote pages 109-114 in the Phonics Practice book.   Grammar -   (red group)  We learned about making "What" questions this week. This was a follow-on from learning this/that/these and those. They did a super job working on their own! I am very proud of them!
