Friday, December 15th (Week#16)
Dear parents,
What did we do this week?
Phonics- In this week’s phonics lesson we learned about the long vowel /a/
a_e/ (face, race, late). We learned different long a silent e words. We
practiced this sound by saying the sound and then the words over and over
again. We had more practice and completed pages 73-78 in the Phonics
Practice Book.
Grammar (green group) –
This week we learned about “Possessive Adjectives”. Possessive adjectives show
possession. Possessive adjectives say that something belongs to someone or
something. They come before nouns. For example: I am Tom. This
is my book. We had more practice and wrote pages 50-52 in the
Grammar book.
Grammar (red group) - This week we learned about “The Verb Be: Yes/No Questions”.
We make yes/no questions with the verb be. The verb be (am, are, is) comes at the beginning of the sentences: The verb be (Am, Are, Is) +
subject + ~ ? For example: Are you a student? Yes, I am. We completed pages 32-33 in the Grammar Book.
Reading- This week’s readers are Mitch and Flash (red group) and A Gray Day (green group). Please remember to ask your child to read it to you at home. They
have to keep the weekly reader book in their bags so they can read it at home and school.
Journeys (green group) - We read “Seasons” this week. This week’s story is about seasons
and we had a great discussion on what season we all like the most.
Cornerstone (red group) - We read “Chinese New Year” This week’s story is about a special holiday we celebrate in Asia and all around the world. We talked about what we eat and what kinds of activities we can do when it’s
Chinese New Year. Please remember to encourage your child to read to you over
the weekend and practice next week’s story.
Science- This week we started
with unit 5 “More about animals”. We learned that there are different types of
animals. We also learned that not all animals can be kept as pets. We completed
pages 30-33 in the Science activity book.
Math – We started and finished chapter 9 “Solid Shapes” this week. We learned
different solid shapes like spheres, cuboids, cones, and cubes. We completed pages 120-134.
Have a LOVELY weekend!!
Love,
Ms. Kelly
